Course 9 Activity 6: Share Your Thoughts

To assess the child on number operations, a teacher frames a question paper at the end of the lesson with multiple choice questions only. Another teacher divides the concept of number operations into smaller sub-units and observes how the child responds to activities designed for each sub-unit. The teacher maintains a file of each child's sample work done in that unit in a portfolio and uses it to write the report looking at their portfolio. Which strategy would you like to adopt in your class and why?

  8. I will divide the number of concepts of operations into smaller sub unit and will observe how the child responds to the activities designed for each sub unit. And will record the performance of each student and then observe at which step is the child having problems. Then I will explain the concept further.

  12. i would like to opt for second method it will help children to understand the concept better and will help teacher to find the clarity of child and where he needs help

  13. It is better to divide the concept of number operations into smaller sub-units and observes how the child responds to activities designed for each sub-unit.
This will give clear data on which child has not understood which particular sub-unit or topic.

  14. Activity based assessment is better option for assessing a child because it is stress free and child will enjoy the process.

  15. I will prefer the second one where a teacher maintains a file of each child's sample work done in that unit in a portfolio as it will help the teacher to know the child's weak point. To help the child to clear the concept.

  17. As a Pre Primary teacher, I would like to support the second one where the teacher divides the concept of number operations into smaller subunits and observes how the child responds to activities designed for each sub-unit. The teacher maintains a file of each child's sample work done in that unit in a portfolio and uses it to write the report looking at their portfolio. The steps or processes taken are very much appropriate to understand each child's learning as well as gaps in learning. Secondly, different activities as per child's interest and need help him/her to participate and ask doubts in the form of questions. Teachers can make use of multiple assessment techniques and collect the data for each child in portfolios which not only reflects their learning outcomes but also shows their competency skills.

  18. The second strategy is more appropriate as it can test diverse competencies and the different tests can be conceptualised keeping in mind the real life situations too.

  19. I
will record the performance of each student and then observe at which step is the child having problems. Then I will explain the concept further.

  20. The second strategy is more apt and teacher gauge each child and accordingly modify to strengthen their numeracy operations.

  21. I opt to divide the number of concepts of operations into smaller sub unit and will observe how the child responds to the activities designed for each sub unit. And will record the performance of each student and then observe the potential of every child and teach accordingly

  22. I will go with the second approch of the assessment which is to divide the chapter in small units and concepts and assess the learner as it will help me to know how much the learner has understood and in which concept he or she is facing problems or need more practice. It will also help the teacher to clear the misconceptions.

  25. I will go with the second approach of the Learning Level assessment which is to divide the chapter in small units and concepts and assess the learner as it will help me to know how much the learner has understood and in which concept he or she is facing problems or need more practice. It will help me to understand each child, their context and their response, level of understanding and efforts required to make them learn the concept

  26. I would select the second one because it's the obvious choice. India is a diverse country and to acknowledge learner differences one needs to plan strategically and assessments that are diverse and we'll thought of, will give a clearer picture of learning gaps.

  27. I like to choose second method because it will give a child more opportunity to try and teacher can assess a child in a better way.

  32. In my view I would adopt second strategy to assess the learning of child in number operation as it will be helpful to know that whether the concept and the sub areas related to the concept has been understood by the whole class or they lack in some areas and on that specific areas different strategies can be adapted for children specifically.
